From pumping gas to becoming a member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, Rob Schafer wants to serve people.
Schafer, an attorney and managing partner at Carlson, Schafer & Davis law office in Beatrice, filed for the District 5 seat on the NU Board of Regents on Jan. 7. Gov. Dave Heineman appointed him to the board in March 2013 to fill the vacancy of Lavon Heidemann became lieutenant governor.
The term for regents is normally six years, but Schafer was appointed to fill the vacancy for a two-year term until he could run for election. If he is elected, he will stay for four more years, which adds up to the six-year term.
“It’s an opportunity to serve,” Schafer said. “Public service has always been a part of my life.”
