Rob Schafer was appointed to the University of Nebraska Board of Regents by Governor David Heineman in 2013 and successfully won election in 2014. He has since secured re-election in 2018 and served as Vice Chair in 2017 and as the Chair in 2018. Board of Regents District 5 covers southeast Nebraska including Cass, Gage, Jefferson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Saline, Seward, and Thayer counties and portions of Lancaster and Sarpy counties.
